Technology
There are certainly many different technologies utilized for radio systems: analog, digital, conventional and trunked. And to make things more complicated there can be a mix of technologies used by a system. The top three public safety wireless vendors are Motorola, M/A-COM Wireless, and EF Johnson (Transcrypt). Scanners manufactured by Uniden and Radio Shack (GRE) are able to track Motorola, M/A-COM Wireless EDACS, and EF Johnson LTR trunking systems. Consumer scanners presently cannot decode digital voice on M/A-COM and OpenSky systems.
